BOYS FALL CLINIC
The Monroe Township Lacrosse will be offering a Fall Lacrosse Clinic. The clinic will run once a week for 6 weeks, starting in October. The clinics will be held on the 2 brand new lacrosse fields at Veteran’s Park off Avenue K. We are aiming to hold the first session on Tuesday, Oct 6 from 6:30-8pm.
All Covid-19 safety precautions will be strictly enforced. Face masks will be required while coming onto and leaving the fields. Clearly marked, personal water bottles must be sent for the players. No water will be provided and no sharing will be allowed. A health questionnaire will also need to be submitted each week before a player can participate.
We will rotate the kids through multiple stations. Each station focused on a specific lacrosse skill- catching, passing, shooting, dodging, ground balls, etc. We will limit the number of participants at each station and space all stations out across the fields. In the interest of keeping the kids properly spaced we will not be scrimmaging nor playing games during these clinics. We will have coaches and parents helping out in order to manage the kids and enforce the rules and distancing.
The new fields at Avenue K are beautiful natural grass which is the way lacrosse was meant to be played. Most of our players have learned to play lacrosse on artificial turf and have developed bad habits because of it. Thick natural grass requires proper form and maximum effort to dig out ground balls. Errant passes and wayward shots stay in bounds so play continues without pause. Natural grass also has the benefit of being easier on joints and cushions falls better. Lacrosse is a much better game on grass and we are lucky to have access to these fantastic fields at Avenue K. Now we just need to get the kids used to playing on it.
These sessions are open to 2nd-8th grade boys of all skill levels. We welcome anybody from boys wanting to try the sport for the first time to returning experienced players. This is meant to be an opportunity to safely get the kids off the couch and around their friends while having fun playing a sport they love.
We are also looking into offering a clinic for girls but still have some details to work out. Watch your emails for future updates.
